I had the privelege to hear both DJ Search (Serge, from Clone) and Ferenc(i/f) spin on the same night, and both guys played a really wide variety of stuff, that all fit together because of their skills. I/f doesn't spin without including some italo disco in his set. Electro music, after all, started out as part of early hip hop. The basic electro beat was adopted for Miami Bass. Groups like 2Live Crew turned Electro into more of a guilty pleasure for most American DJ's. There has been a sort of revival going on for the past few years, but what has kept Electro alive over the years are people like I/F and BMG -- Electro is a music they have always loved, even when it's no longer the flavor of the month.
