Yes VCV Rack is great! Love playing around with it and they have a ton
of modules...almost the same issue with hardware modular too much
choice. ;)

What I love about AudioMulch is the learn MIDI mode by right clicking
and turning a MIDI controller it just syncs up, then you can automate
it. Can't recall if it works with the VSTs in there but that's a
feature they need to implement in VCVrack for me to use it more.
Turning all those knobs with a mouse is painful.

I love hybrid setups. I'm the kinda guy that works on ARP 2600 VSTs on
the laptop writing tracks then go back and use a real 2600 to record
tracks on top and layer them up. Same thing with the MS-20. No one
knows or cares that it's layers of VA and analog.
