Just got a chance to hear two new Suction label releases - the new Solvent album called "Solvently One Listens" as well as the new Suction compilation called "Assorted Pieces." Here are all the relavent infos for you: ---------------------------------------- . Slovent: solvently one listens cd (Suction 006) Tracks: 1. solvently one listsens 2. black turtleneck 3. hello pop 4. monkey rope 5. leeches 6. duckie 7. tape recorder 8. ten cent teeth 9. well you needn't 10. ernok 11. old tin 12. wig $1.00 13. basildon Press release info: "solvently one listens" is the second full-lenght release from suction records' recording artist and co-proprietor Jason Amm, aka solvent. Combining alternatively buoyant and subdued rhythms with rich engaging, and touching melodies, solvent's brand of electronic listening music is refreshingly simple, direct, honest, and inviting. "solvently one listens" was described by urban sound as "the aural approximation of a reassuring hug," and tracks like "hello pop". "well you needn't", and "duckie" combine the divergent emotional fibers of elation and sadness, joy and disconsolation - embracing both as inevitable, often complementary aspects of life. Mean- while, "tape recorder", "solvently one listens", and the inspiring closers, "basildon", are unassuming and playful - tunes a child might hum in between sandcastles and swingsets. solvent freely admits to the influence of techno-pop - depeche mode, soft cell and yazoo included - but these are only starting points. "solvently one listens" comes off as techno-pop's faithful progeny and local next step, combining ageless musical impulses with forgotten technologies. The result is music of singular voice and vision. In a better world, you'd hear solvent on the radio. But for now, please listen "solvently," and enjoy. Solvent's Solvently one listens cd will be out the first week in November 1999. This release will also be available as a double 12" LP at the end of November 1999 with a special printed metallic sleeve and extra goodies. ---------------------------------------- . Assorted Pieces compilation 10" (Suction 007) Tracks: 1. Lowfish: igloo mux 2. Pluxus: ers majest=E4t 3. Tinfoil Teakettle: 1982 for you 4. Brioche Kretzal: hi/by/why? 5. ? Press release info: "ASSORTED PIECES" is a new 10" compilation of electronic music from Canada's SUCTION RECORDS - four melody-driven tracks from four artists: 1. Suction's own Canadian robot LOWFISH, in full-on Vince-Clarke-Attack mode. 2. PLUSUX, a 3-piece analog-improv group from Sweden - electro Drumatix and nice '70s melodies. 3. the debut release for our TINFOIL TEAKETTLE project, aka the combined efforts of Solvent & Lowfish - more beats, more melodies, more synthesizers. 4. BRIOCHE KRETZAL, happy pop tones by the little man from Manchester - previous lives and guises on U.K . labels Skam & V/vm. While listening to this record, please ignore the fumes & try not to trip on any cables. It's hot in this room. Assorted pieces clutter the tables & floor - a drum machine with dirty volume pots, a guitar pedal running out of batteries (no more power outlets available!), and a brand new sampler with monitor & mouse. Miraculously, the synths are all in tune. Press record... For Suction Records, it's not about gratuitous clinging to the past; it's about staying true to our ideals and perfecting the key elements - chuncky beats, memorable melodies and warm, analog production. This is what makes it Suction. Our reality is not virtual, but concrete, visual, unpredictable, and inspirational. We believe that a Moog is more fun than a plug-in. - ans we hope the 4 tracks on "ASSORTED PIECES" may help to confirm this notion. Suction's Assorted Pieces compilation 10" will be available at the end of November 1999 (around the same time as the vinyl version of Solvently one Listens) and will also feature a custom printed sleeve. --------------------------- Now my quick comments... After a few listens to each I cant help but be amazed at how Suction continually bests each release. Keep in mind that all their previous releases are superb but they always seem to find a way to make their music even better! The Solvent cd has an enveloping warmth like none other and the Assorted Pieces comp contines to impress. Even new suction artists Pluxus, Tinfoil Teakettle, and Brioche Kretzal leave you warm, relaxed, and aching for more! Overall, Suction outdoes itself yet again. Two more absolute gems to add to your catalog. Bravo! -->-Lance--- xxxxxxx@xxxx.xxx xxxxx@xxxxxxxxx.xxx p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states
