A few releases (IDM and otherwise) I bought today and some comments on them: Sneakster - "Splinters" I was really looking forward to this and I'm glad I finally found it... but it's a little disappointing to my ears. I suppose I was expecting a more classic Seefeel-like sound, so that's really my own fault. Is the album any better? The Herbaliser feat. Latyrx - "8 Point Agenda" This single features a track which was submitted too late to appear on the recent LP. And yes, it has vocals, so that will probably turn 90% of you off it already. :) It's damn good though, especially the "Version 2" mix which doesn't sound at all like the Herbaliser as I know them. Oh, and it contains another in the vast line of Ninja Tune printing errors (marked CDS8 on the spine, CDS85 on the back). I think they need to hire a proofreader. Kiyoshi Izumi - "Effect Rainbow" Was just talking about this last week... I already had the 12", but I found the CD used today (complete with extra-groovy jewel case) and couldn't resist. Mr. Scruff - "Honeydew" This is probably one of my least favourite Mr. Scruff tracks, but being the Ninja-completist that I am, I had to buy it. The single is a little, er, sparse (and yes, it has vocals too). It contains a radio edit, album version, and instrumental of the title track plus a remix of "So Long". So in reality, it's a two-track single. I could have lived without the radio edit and album version, and the So Long remix doesn't do much for me. I guess I'll just set the instrumental version to loop on my CD player and enjoy... Solvent - "Solvently One Listens" Great album, blah blah blah... read the other reviews if you want to know what it's like because I agree with them 100%. Solvent is wonderful and Suction Records rules the world. :) Then again, I'm biased. Add N To X / Andy Votel 7" The latest in the Slut Smalls 7" series is pretty damn good, probably one of the best so far. The last couple (007 and 006) were pretty bad, I think. With only four more left, I hope they have something good in store for us other than Squarepusher... xxxxxxxxx@xxxx.xxx
