To add to the debate regarding Simon Reynolds, purpose of music, et al.. I completely understand the absolute importance of finding out the role of music in culture, especially when music and/or aspects of music permeate your life everyday...but perhaps there is a tad too much overanalysis...I love to sit around and think about the ethnomusicological aspects of club culture, the predominant role of new musics, and whatnot, and I think it's completely valid...but also, almost more than anything else, I LOOVVEE to sit with my headphones on, living in the silly world of music... and honestly, it's just one person's opinion.
