I recently received promo copies of the Funkstoerung "Additional Productions" CD and the Depth Charge "Electro Boogie" mix CD on Studio K7. I just want to give both of them big thumbs up. Although I've always liked them, I've never been an immense Funkstoerung fan, but "Additional Productions" really shows off the skills of Mike and Chris. Indeed they're guilty of working of the Ae blueprint, but, much like Bochum Welt did with Aphex's style, they manage to pull it off with their own signature. The Visit Venus is a nice crunchy melodic ditty that's been getting repeated play on my player, while, the Wu-Tang remix shows of Funkstoerung's sense of humor. As an added bonus, the DR artwork is cool spoof on the German post office. As for the J. Saul Kane's "Electro Boogie," it's a fun foray into the slightly darker realm European (Blue Monday thump-thump) electro. He mixes in a few of his own Electron Industries tracks with Echo Park, some Anthony Rother, and even my favorite Karaoke track... Soft Cell's "Tainted Love." :-) Both CDs are recommended. Mike.
