dear idm,
i have decided to take it upon myself to take the first steps in
starting a label that will hopefully reflect some of the very people
who post and lurk in this newsgroup. i realize that such a project
has been done, but i think that what i am hoping to succeed in doing
is quite different than what was already done. anyone interested in
sending demos please e-mail me privately and i'll give you more
details. in addition anyone interested in being a part of the label
please contact me.

there are a lot of roles to play in getting something released.
mastering the music, creating the artwork, getting proper
distribution, and having the product produced is a lot of work, and
that's not even mentioning the physical music itself. i have no
interest in handling all these roles myself, but if that's what it
takes at first, then that's what i'll have to do. when i first posted
my message yesterday i was just making a suggestion, but now i realize
it's an idea i want to make sure happens. with all the talent in this
list, i think we really have something great. if you have something
you can donate to this cause (and i know you do) i'd love to work with
you on this project. i'd love to get as many people to collaborate on
this as possible. if this is to work out it should be a group
project. i only want to help bring everyone together, not make all
the decisions. whether the entire list will become involved, or just
some individuals, the important factor is to put out original music
that isn't already out there. i hope that we can get the ball rolling
soon for an initial release in the near future, ie before summer. i
know there are a ton of you out there with tapes of stuff you worked
on at home and i'd love to be a part of getting that very rare stuff
(rarer than any skam release) out into the public. ideally we can get
these records pressed for as little money as possible and sell them
for $5 or less. if there are any profits after the cost of production
they should be given 100% to the artists.

there are some very serious matters to deal with before i go any
further. i do not want to own anyones original material, nor am i
interested in profiting off of this venture. i am only looking to
expose people who deserve exposure. it is obvious to me that i can't
make the decision of who to release all by myself, so i'd like to ask
you, the list, to tell me what you think. if you want to be
considered for release and have audio on the web post your url to the
list and send me an e-mail.

now that i've expressed a few of my ideas i'd like to ask the
moderator of the list if he would be willing to participate in this
project in some manner, big or small. i completely respect whatever
decision he makes, but it would be great if we could all have a
central figure who could help us organize, track costs, and most
importantly **ENSURE THAT NOBODY GETS RIPPED OFF** you all don't know
me, and i'd like to remain a nobody because it's not me that deserves
attention, it's you, the bedroom musician who is making stuff that HAS
to get released already. i don't mind furnishing all my info to a
single person, such as the moderator, but for me to get any attention
detracts from my idea which is to put the spotlight on all of you.
those of you who don't make music, but enjoy listening to it should
think about supporting putting out others, whether it's financially or
through donating some of your skills.

i can afford to put in money, but i'm really hoping that some of you
will see this for what it really is (an honest persons attempt to
start something positive and give others a shot at getting some
publicity) and maybe you can pitch in something that would help save
our operation costs. i like the idea of having this label being owned
by the list, or hypereal, or whatever better idea someone has, i just
want to help put quality material out. any problems that any of you
see in my statements, please call me on it. i am not attached to
anything i have said so far, except the part about putting out good
original material. i realize that internet scams are prevalent, and i
don't recommend people send money to strangers. the issue of donating
money is a big one, and i don't quite know how to handle it best.
any/all suggestions are welcome. i have no problem with this being
public if you don't, but i understand if some of you don't want to
hear another word about my idea. in addition, if it makes any/all of
you more comfortable for me to lay out the money for the first release
i'll gladly do it, even if it means i'll have to sacrifice certain
things to do it. ideally we'd all be in on this together, so for me
to accept all the responsibility kind of kills what i'm after, but i
may need to win some of you over to get this thing moving. whatever i
have to do i'm prepared for. in addition, any of you who are
interested, but are hesitant for various reasons, please tell me what
you have problems with, so that i can try to see where you are coming
from and hopefully attempt to appeal to you so that i can get you
involved. i'm open to change. i apologize for taking so much time
and space here. there is much more that i could and would like to
say, but i should end this before it becomes a digest all in itself.
thanks very much for listening, and i'd be h
