A Planet =B5 Night @ ScumDancing ~ Friday 16th July 1999

Z I Q 0 1 5

A PLANET =B5 NIGHT featuring CAPITOL K
On Friday the 16th of July the ScumDancing organization presents a rare an=
d
spectacular evening devoted to the mavericks and contemporary~uniques who
operate from within forward-thinking independent label, Planet =B5. Such a
comprehensive gathering of the =B5 clan is an infrequent one and tonight t=
hey
travel from far and wide to celebrate the release of the debut album from
Capitol K -- and also their debut live performance.

FREE 7" SINGLE
This is also the First National congree of Planet =B5 and as such carries =
the
catalogue number ZIQ 015 which covers not only the event itself but a
numbered / exclusive / limited edition seven inch single which will be giv=
en
away free to the first hundred =B5 partisans through the door on the eveni=
ng.
This will feature otherwise unavailable material from Capitol K ("Postcard=
")
and Jega ("Funky Track"). Early arrival is therefore recommended.

CAPITOL K ~ LIVE!
"Sounds of the Empire", the strange new album from Kristian Craig Robinson
(aka Capitol K / Malta, Borneo, Limehouse), is currently gaining a
reputation within many circles as one of the most inventive albums to have
emerged so far this year. And rightly so. By mixing elements of Rock (live
drums and guitars, but without the powerchords or clich=E9d funky-drummer
beats), and Electronics (sequencers, samples and effects; but no
austerity-noodling), Capitol K's music may well defy precise categorizatio=
n
but their fiercely up-beat / down-beat, kaleidoscopic / melodic barrage al=
so
makes you want to dance. A set consisting of mostly album material (revise=
d,
on-the-spot) along with a clutch of embryonic aural assaults can be
expected, whilst the visual ambience promises to be "patterns, picture boo=
k"
and "postcard". Capitol K & co. are due onstage near the eleven o'clock
mark.

DJs ~ =B5-ZIQ, JEGA & HORSE OPERA
DJ-ing head-to-head on the evening will be Planet =B5 generalissimo Mike
Paradinas (aka =B5-Ziq, Tusken Raiders, Jake Slazenger... / Worcester) and
Dylan Nathan (aka Jega / Manchester; also Skam, McR). Mike P is on the ver=
ge
of releasing a corking new =B5-Ziq album through a label which he doesn't =
yet
own (Virgin) whilst Dylan Jega prepares for the follow-up to his criticall=
y
accliamed "Spectrum" with a second album on Planet =B5 sometime this autum=
n.
Tonight the two of them square-up in a double-headed entanglement of
complexity-breaks, electro-approximations and gridlock minutiae-programmin=
g.
They might actually get around to playing some records too. During the
course of the evening label kamerad and real-life computer hacker Horse
Opera (Coventry: so good they named it once) makes a DJ appearance armed
with an expanded cache of mini-discs containing who knows what. Yet more
sharp-edge disc-spinning is provided by Slang and Spiky Records' Bowling
Green which completes an evening of likeminded unorthodoxy.
