Yeah, but let's face it, it sounds like pure pap at 33rpm! The 'correct'
speed is obviously 45rpm, so I wish the artist/label would cut the
bullshit and stop pretending that Tom J knew what it was going to sound
like at 33rpm when he made it 45rpm. I think it's pretty patronising to
put on a record that it can be played at both speeds - like who in the
world doesn't know that? All records can be played any bloody speed you
want and it's all opinion as to whether they sound any good at ANY
speed. My opinion is - make your music great at one speed and fuck what
it sounds like at the other. And that's not wanting to deprive people of
listening to their records at the wrong speeds. As I said, I love 'Deep
Fried Pizza' at 33rpm, it's great, but no one can say an artist intends
their music to sound the way it does at the 'wrong' speed...

Having said all this putting both speed on the record would be perfectly
valid if they had created parts of the music *at* both speeds ie if they
worked on it normally, then took the whole pitch of the track up/down to
the speed it would be at 45rpm then worked on it some more, etc...

Has anyone ever actually done this? Probably sounds crappy, but I always
did want to try it out to see what it would sound like. Guess it would
(as usual) depend on how good the person making it was...

Gb.

np: Kushti - Stromboli (at the intended 45rpm speed, just in case you
were wondering!)
