Phoenecia's Randa Roomet EP is a must have for me. Mix DJ Magic Mike and Autechre on an escalator and you're getting close. Go to the Warp website for some RealAudio snippets. If you can't relate to the references, a description of it might sound like: garbled ghetto beats, sad synthesizers weeping, and a lot of funk masked by unnatural melodies and treatments. If you didn't know better it might come across as a more upbeat and funk driven Autechre. Broadcast's Work and Non Work LP is also nice. But not at all similiar. On this release you might think of Stereolab type synthesizers and organs, but with a summer, bubblegum type bliss. It's undeniably the most un-Warp Warp release. Guitars, real drums, voals, the whole bit. Maybe that's why Drag City in the states picked it up. If you like Stereolab then you'll enjoy this. And if you enjoy this, then check out what Thrill Jockey is releasing, and keep your eyes peeled for Flying Saucer Attack. hope this helps. +odd -- Todd Sines film * audio * design http://www.corefilm.com
