Re: [AH] Moving company w/ insurance

I have experience with this.

The moving company must pack the gear themselves for the insurance. If you have
a decent collection of road cases they will use those and then pack them further.

There is nothing wrong with hovering over them, like a mother goose, pointing
out any short comings and nit picking the packing methods. The better prepared
you are, the better a job they do. The packers should be professionals, used to
packing Auntie Lydia's porcelan figurine collection.

If the packers seem off, or drunk or brutal, shut it down immediately and get on
the phone to the company. Basically, you need to stand there and be present for
everything. Its your stuff.

You also have to make it crystal clear to insurance that they are hauling some
vintage synths, that are replaceable, but only after acquisition and restoration
and absurd amounts of $$$. All policies will basically say "6 voice analogue
music synthesizer -> replacement value $999" based on the basic new synth
price. The policy givers may be ignorant, but the adjusters are surprisingly
adept and knowledgeable. ie) A Behringer DeepMind is a suitable replacement for
a Roland Jupiter-6 in the insurance world.

Are you moving by sea or air?

If by sea, you can contact a shipping company directly as they will use their
own contractors for the ground move to the ship haven.

I moved to Iceland and used a company called Eimskip. They own ships and took
care of everything from door to door. The negotiation process took nearly 2
months. They did right by me but I think they will only do Rotterdam, Hamburg,
Copenagen & Reykjavík.
