Wells excels!

Enough about this post has been said already, but I just wanted to put
my views forward anyway because I can so nyah :-p

Firstly, I don't think anyone should be removed from the list because of
views like the above, as has been suggested by some other listmembers.
If you don't like it, you don't have to read all of it, and it's not
exactly so long that it is a significant waste of time or bandwidth.
Wells comments are pretty much consise and to the point, and they are
not 200 pages of total crap (usually about 1 page of crap!), and the
only criteria for throwing people off the list for me would be if they
were pointlessly huge, IMO. If Wells posts ruined your otherwise
cloud-free day, then he's probably achieved his objective. I didn't find
the post particularly funny or offensive, but I think to say such
posts/posters should be removed is the equivalent of people who say "why
can't we have a news programme with just happy news in it?". A forum is
not neccessarily full of tasty morsels tailored to the individuals on
the list - it is a forum in which there will (and should) be extremes
which will not suit everyone. Blah, blah, blahdy blah.

Secondly, despite the above, I agree that just because you have a
negative opinion about a band/artist, you don't have to express it. A
while back there was a big discussion about the Beach Boys. Now if it
was up to me, and I was the sole person listening to them, I probably
would have their legs ripped off by rabid hounds, but I didn't say so
'cos it was obvious enough that I didn't like them, and it would hardly
help in gaining any insight into why people do like them. Wells did
express his opinion (the rabid dogs thing), which of course is up to
him. I don't think gaining insight from other peoples views is his
reason for being on this list, so it wouldn't bother him that he
wouldn't gain anything other than a place on some people's kill file as
a result of his posting.

Thirdly, who gives a fuck who writes the music on an artists LP. This is
no basis to like/dislike the music on! Stop trying to rationalise and
let your heart decide! To not listen to Bjork just 'cos she doesn't
write all her own music is to discredit the other people who did work on
it in such as Mark Bell etc. To enjoy the music is the point of the
Bjork album, but at the same time it is not lowest common denominator
music, there are some exciting and innovative things going on here, and
that is the beauty of Homogenic, it has pop appeal in image and music,
it's not throwaway (it has depth) and the music is challenging if you
want it to be. The latter seems to be your sole reason for listening to
music, so you should be able to get something from this album, but no
doubt you wont be able to because you probably can't accept that
something can be popular and challenging at the same time. This is, I
would suggest, because really you hate the PEOPLE who listen to pop
music, not the pop music itself.

As for Tricky, he might make his own music, but only just. Badly looping
a sample and throwing some other cut up bits over the top hardly ranks
as the most effort in the world, IMO, and although effort isn't
everything, his latest batch of music is the most lacklustre expression
of 'genius' I've ever heard. Please release the hounds on him and anyone
who listens to him, round them up and torture them all with a cattle
prod until they can no longer function as human beings (IRONY).

And what about Bjorks collab with Tricky, "Enjoy", and the track on the
Nearly God LP? Did you "Enjoy" or did you pour scorn on it? Guess it
would depend on your ability to rationalise it like so:

If music = by Bjork, music = bad.
If music = by Tricky, music = good.

And if you can't work this out, maybe you'll even have to listen to it
to find out. What is the world coming to eh, when you have to listen to
a peice of music to find out how good it is?

That's all folks...

gb.

PS Please feel free to add me to your kill file if you deem this post
too long or time consuming.
