<for that matter, is there any
Kid606 material commercially available? >

I have the "UnAmerican Activity" EP on Vinyl Communications (V 145) -
pretty fucked up in-your-voice noisy kind of stuff (not that his on-list
persona would lead you to expect anything like that!) - in a good way of
course - your taste has to encompass the noisier end of the IDM spectrum
and cover some ground that includes Merzbow and similarly minded Japanese
noise terrorists, in which case, this is for you.

<i am intrigued by the fishcake compilation of icelandic electronic - the
best description i've gotten is "sahko vs. heroin house." can anyone
elaborate? is it generally gritty/organic a la chain reaction, or more
synthetic and dull like mike ink? >

Chain Reaction comparisons get thrown around but it is smoother/cooler,
more on the melodic side - the only Mike Ink I know is Las Vegas which I
like fine, but I guess it's closer to that. Recommended if you like
Mannequin Lung and the Emanated comp. (and vice versa).
I chuckled the first few times I heard the phrase "heroin house" but I'll
be groaning when SPIN or Rolling Stone get hold of it and decide to run a
big expose on drugs in the electronic music world. Speaking of which
sometimes the local news reporters can "cut to the chase" in a way that a
million music critics never could - a 1/14/99 New York Times Metro section
story on the bust of a Queens-based ecstasy dealer decided that the readers
needed a quick definition of "rave: an electronic-music party that can go
on for days."
Speaking of the Emanated comp. I was pleased that the blurb on the Forced
Exposure Web site has a lot more info on who's who than the record itself
but it's full of misspellings - is the name really Arrow Lkeeman
(Lillianthal)?
The best gig of the reformed Silver Apples that I've seen was in early '97
when Arrow and Xian Hawkins (Sybarite) were in the band.

>The "Type Zero" 12" on Planet ?: Anime / Robotech / Gundam figure on the
>cover.

My 4 1/2 year old immediately declared this was some sort of Power Ranger
figure and was disappointed when the music didn't match his notion of what
a record with a "megazord" on the cover ought to sound like - he and his
friends very much like the Lego Feet track that starts the Skampler comp.
and have evolved a dance to go with it.

<the average female's genetically built in desire to shop>

the real problem is *lack* of built-in desire to shop for important things
like CDs!
