M.F. Grimm - Do It For The Kids (Fondle 'Em) I know there are more headz on this list than just Sam in NYC, mult, and me. For the rest of you, take notice. I've been getting fed up with the amount of shite i've had to go through to find a decent hip-hop record, not knowing just which labels to drop money on, but this 12" made it clear. Produced by Rob Swift, whom i've got much respect for, this record is really a gem, and, again, pressed in the U.S. The a-side, Do It For The Kids, starts out with a chilled beat and a killer sax sample, before M.F. breaks into his tale. He proceeds to drop lyrics about killing a guy for his girl, but not getting caught. Sounds alot worse in words than it really is. He goes on, talking about his "ghost-bustin', ass-kickin' victory" when the deceased's ghost comes back to get him. His lyrics are dope, Rob Swift doesn't miss with the production, and, most importantly, IMO, he's got a story to tell, not pumped-up bullshit about he's going to drop it, and then never does. Don't let the review trick you, he's not glorifying the life of the streets, and he's not making excuses, he's just telling HIS story, but droppin' science in the process. On the flip is a slowed-down rap about a dying letter to a love, and whether it's fact or fiction [he doesn't die], it still touches me. A fine 12, the strength of which prompted me to buy up Fondle 'Em, M.F. Doom (same guy?), and other hip-hop records, and is helping to restore my faith in it, along with Rawkus. check http://sandbox.automatic.com/ for .ra and sales. .jeff / chris. .do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. \-. you may both be wrong .-/
