Sorry, but I must respectfully disagree with you.

The absolute best lyricist, especially for sad songs, is none other than
Lloyd Cole.  You can't imagine unless you've actually heard his songs,
both solo and with the Commotions.  He's followed closely in the sad
song category by Tori Amos and Bryan Ferry (solo), and some of James
Taylor's stuff (ie-Fire and Rain).

Let's see, IDMish?

There's some great sad stuff (as well as shit scary) on SAW II.

I can think of plenty of scary stuff, but not a lot of sad IDM/ambient.
