Interesting.
Why the upsurge of nostalgia?
anyhow,

I like this first records thing, heres mine.

First purchase: 1987 or 88, bought "the best of OMD" on tape. That new
tape smell still fascinates me.
First vinyl: Mothers Day 198, bought Depeche Mode's "Everything Counts"
w/Tim Simenon and Mark Saunders remix.
First CD: 1989, The Cure's "Fascination Street" cd5 and Depeche Mode's
"Personal Jesus" cd5.
First IDM: Well, I tend to look at syth-pop as an early form of IDM but
for those of you who don't then theres
808State's EX:EL which I bought on tape because it had Bernard Sumner of
New Order and Bjork on it. 808State actually does date back to about 1984
or so when Graham Massey was in a group call Biting Tongues on Factory
Records. Anyhow, there was 808 and then industrial and then a backlash to
what became known as TECHNO (which I still hate) and then back to post-punk
where I wandered around for a few years and then came "Protection" by
Massive Attack which brought me back, there was trip-hop and acid jazz and
then came Blech in NYC.

First IDM vinyl: FreeForm Prawl

1500 vinyl, 500 CDs, 200 tapes and 11 years later.
