Also Funckarma is sposed to have an album on Djak-Up-Bitch later this year, which should compete with the new Autechre album for sheer "I have to have it"-ness. I didn't think Funckarma's 12"s were great until I turned them up loud, then I started hearing all the little nuances on them. I mean, they put Funkstorung to shame (their version was way better than the remix) which is not easy. i saw him perform in chicago several months back. he was opening for funkstorung. an excellent set. i think he is someone to look out for. his double density e.p. is great. he has a wonderful sense for melody and different song structures and intricate/subtle beats. plus he's a really nice guy. I personally think Lexaunculpt has tons of potential, but that "Double Density" EP was really five of the same song that didn't do it for me in terms of originality or excitement. "Sleeping Alone" (b3) was excellent though. I would expect his MaS release should be better which would hopefully promise great things. anyone have any dates on these releases?? I'd ask xxx@xxx.xxx, if they don't know, who does? (or maybe it's orb.net, I forgot) Quick aside on Funkstorung...just read their new album is going to have lots of hip-hop vocals, electro, other strange touches. I respect their desire to be original and innovative, but does this seem like a potential retread of Beaumont Hannant or Squarepusher? (excellent early releases followed up by alienating the fanbase) I suppose we'll have to wait and see. B.
