-- Delsin Records -- Well, besides being thoroughly pleased with this 12" on Delsin, it hasn't left the turntable since i dropped it on there. With Stephen Betke (Pole) mastering this one, you'll learn to appreciate how clean a record can sound when played at both high and low frequencies (unlike what Stephen provides on his tracks.. perhaps it's true that he collects all the redundancies/nuances from the records he works on, and splashes them into his material, but that's another story in itself). CiM, is none other than Simon Walley, you may recognize him from several Headspace releases. On 'Service Pack,' eight luscious tracks loaded with obscure ambient sizzling's approaches the ears at an alarming rate. "Comfort Control" and "Shift" can be accurately lumped into the idm field, however, it deserves recognition for sounding as innovative and electronically persistent as anything you've heard from Autechre, Mouse On Mars, and even Metamatics for that matter. Nicely glued beats and skewed melodies. The last two tracks on the "b" side are more on the techno side of the platter, with lots of electronics thrown in for good measure. Overall, CiM is the perfect balance of electronica, ambient (yes, there's some atmospheric debris in here), and techno. Highly recommended..
