(idm) #idm channel on IRC (mega geek content)

The deal with IRC, when it's working right, is that you can just type
/join #idm
at the prompt, and if nobody else is on the channel, it will be
created automatically. If you wait a few minutes or hours, somebody else
will join. Keep IRC running in a window in the background so you can do
other things while you're waiting.

I say "when it's working right" because if you're connected to a good IRC
server, the whole world can see the same #idm channel. Some servers,
however, are isolated and form islands due to a phenomenon called
"netsplit". As a whole, IRC is a vast ocean of blithering idiocy, but an
#idm channel might form an oasis of pseudo-sanity.

I'm posting this to everyone because if enough people try #idm on IRC from
time to time, realtime discussions can proliferate and PLUR will rain down
on our parched multiverse. It beats working!
