Love 'em or leave 'em, appreciated or under-rated, I must say that B12 are far from being "Detroit techno wannabee". When they came out I was'nt really as taken by them as other early 90's "classics"but in time I've come to appreciate them more. As Lance says (below) it *does* show it's influences but definitely strays somewhere else, somewhere colder, somewhere with less *emotion* (?) As a Detroit fan and as an IDM fan, I just can't tag B12 as "Detroit techno wannabee".
