FRI 29th MAY After another fruitlessly long day spent running about trying to locate the elusive 'squant\' font for the sleeve ofDISKONO #1, finally arrived at the venue [2 rooms - bar area + performance Area - small theatre with 100 SEATS : the proper way to enjoy a performance - NO arseholes wanting to "dAnCe"] 5 minutes before DOors opened w/ DJ essentials i.e. sticky tape - for forcing records to stick, loop - jump & Stanley knife - for real time record mutilations , sadly didn't have time to dump any demo material to MINi-DIsc, so that cat will have to stay in the bag for another Day!, strictly VINYLTONITE!! met up with young James & Andrew, who had strategically placed 50 copies of new VVM 12" outing 'SHOPLIFT' [vvm006.1T you number crunchers] around the venue & b4 you could whistle 'Mouldy Old Dough' VVM commenced only their second LIve set 2 Date, hunched over 2 PC's w/ a bank of MINI-DISC players & 2 turntables for overlays, allowing the throw of the DICE in SMILEY MILEY's Radio 1 Roadshow game to direct the flow of their performance ala Luke Rheindhart 'DIceman', complete subliminal deconstruction,-pink/black/white noise -fragments of recognition, Frank reciting 'Strangers in the Night' direct from Hell, a touching 'Mull of Kintyre' - not a dry eye in the house - The Birdie was spotted as well as the 'Hawaiian' & 'Coronation ST' Tonite's TOP 'Sellotaped in the BAr' Loops 1. VVM - British Beef [vvm] 2 .KUKL - Untitled [Crass] 3. Various - Break / FLOW [Break / Flow] 4. Human Leauge - Dignity of Labour [Flexi-Disc] [Fast] 5. Veco 9 -Untitled [Irdial] 6. No Means No - Untitled [Alternative Tentacles] SAT 30th Aho=y!!!Glasgow old skool indie mafia in da house!!, y' couldnt move for DOC marten shoes, crumpled shirts & 501's, ex-Soup Dragon Sushil Dade's outfit FUTURE PILOT AKA took the stage augmented w/ the dreamy vox / crumpled shiirts & 501's of Glasgow leg-ends THE PASTALS, came over as a dogfight between Cornershop & John Barry, Super 8 projections, pre-programmed LOW-FI riddim & live Brass fleshed out Dade's high register bass lines & textural Geetar -, sound sucked tho:, like to hear them on REcord, 2 becks swilling weirdos - MOUNT VERNON ARTS lABS sat facing each other - sound-chess w/ Therim & bank of FX pedals, doing the oscillating drone gig - pretty good Top Bar Moment only 1 person came up the *whole* weekend to trainspot [techno headz take note] and that was coz he recognized a Steve Reich rekkid Tonites Top Scratched to Fuck Tunes 1. Mark Stewart - Forbidden Colour [Mute] 2. Ciccone Youth - Addicted To Love [Blast First] 3. Conrad Schnitzler - Untitled [EG] 4. Spoonie Gee / Davy DMX - Street Girl [Tuff City] 5. Casper / Peter Brotzmann - Fette Biester [ Path] 6. Keith Whitman - Reckankreuz [Clear Vinyl] SUN 31st Freak OUT ------------- -__ part of ISO' s [Ground Zero's Otomo Yoshihide's new combo] luggage was lost @ airport, so much scuttiling about wasin order to find them a sampler [engineer later remarked "that's the strangest use of a sampler i've ever seen"] & Keyboard, we handed over DJing duties to the local Pirate Radio krew in order to capture the LIVE acts in full tonight, Evan Parker stepped into the spotlight, forgoing microphone or any source of amplification, a single man & his Horn alone, you could almost hear him thinking aloud as out tumbled 40 minutes of high velocity raw and cut to the bone speed jazz, stopping for 5 minutes in-between to get his circulation back!!!-- puts things into perspective when you are lucky enough to witness such an uncompromising genius who exudes genuine warmth & humility - this is what the fuck it is ALL ABOUT- REAL SOUL music..
