>Count me too among the clueless when it comes to speed garage. it's all a bit of a con really.. speed garage is just a catch-all term for the harder end of the uk garage scene. this means vocals, either trad female garage or ragga/gangsta male, along with hard-edged house-style drums and vaguely jungleish basslines i.e rolling as opposed to stabbing bass like in the usual house tune. the odd break might make it in there but never at the forefront, just to beef up the 4/4. in real terms, very little to do with jungle /or/ reggae. so in essence this isn't a new genre, just a handful of new production tricks bolted onto a well established genre. the media interest is all a load of hype that hasn't made anyone the wiser. as far as the commercial end is concerned (which is all i'm familiar with really cos i don't live in london ;-) the general quality is far higher than the normal commercial house stuff which can only be a good thing. i admit, rip groove made my ears perk up a little :-) <waves> np - reality - 4 hero
