Re: (idm) Red Snapper, Japanese style

I think that the whole idea that Warp is 'cashing in' on anything is
ludicrous to say the least. Is it really THAT bad that this label can
put out stuff by such a varied roster ie Jimi Tenor (who sounds a lot
like a 90's Al Green), Sweet Exorcist, Nightmares On Wax, Autechre,
Aphex etc etc etc??...I mean, are the Tomas, Modus Vivendi or Resoraz
records REALLY "idm"??? Probably not, but they're dope just the same,
and I think that is what really counts.
In the case of Red Snapper, that 'Reeled And Skinned' CD is a
compilation of their stuff on Flaw (RIP), which had come out 2 years
previous, mostly. Those cuts weren't really drum & bass in the
Metalheadz/Bukem/V sense of the word. Seems to me that the Red Snapper
stuff has always been different sounding, whether or not it is on a
"bandwagon".
Seems to me that Warp has always tried to have stuff that was
innovative and cool at the same time, no matter what style of electronic
music it is...Obviously if you're goiong to put out 100 releases, not
everything is going to be good. But, they've been around this long, so
they must be doing something right, no?

Sorry to vent-- but it seems that there is an inordinate amount of
Warp-bashing going on. Why is this?
