Performer kind of makes it difficult to do dense beats, as it doesn't
have the weapon of choice for drum programming -- loop programming.
Loop 2 or 4 bars, record in hits, erase 'em, add more. You can spend
hours on the perfect 4 bar loop, but it's fun. Opcode's Vision works
for me -- I do EVERYTHING that way.

For a snare rush, read up on step recording in the on line help.
Turn on step record, set the duration to 1/64 notes, and hammer that snare
64 times. Then figure out if Performer will let you draw in velocity
curves for that buildup, and you're there.

All the drill and bass guys use a variety of tricks to get those drilling
drum rolls. The MPC3000 (Mike Paradinas' current ax) has a repeat button
you can hold down to get a drum roll. Who knows what Richard James uses.
But consider that snare rushes are getting pretty played out.
