I'm surprised no one has mentioned Cluster yet. Their material is a huge
influence on bands like Oval, Mouse on Mars, and other bands of that ilk.
Check out their collaborations with Brian Eno, and most of their older records
from the seventies. Strange chattering rhythms combined with off the wall
melodies.  Their records are quite available.
