album of the day>> Amon Tobin: Permutations

refresher of my tastes. i like jazz but despise "smooth" jazz, can't
comprehend why it contains the same word..:; thus i did Not very much
like the one jimpster disc on instinct/shadow. tobin does jazz. half
the tracks are jazz, the other half are funky [[trip/hop]] stuffs. his
percussion samples are very realistic to my ears, more so than most..
a lot of it sounds as if a drummer drums the stuff, but a bit too fast
and chaotic at most times. in these jazz tracks, while chaotic, the
percussion still has the 'air' of the hihats behind it, and so doesnt
sound so cut up/artificial (not at all
that cutup is bad, it is just a different style).\\trumpets, organs,
etc, very memorable songs, havent heard an album like this in a while.
it is one of the Special ones. people would compare to squarepusher
but they are quite different. the funky non-live-sounding-jazz stuff
has excellent grooves, generally original loops and things that i'm
not sick of hearing in so many other songs. this album is very
recommended. i never heard the bricolage album (someone please tell me
how it compares), but this is much better (while different, but you
can tell they are the same guy) than cujo album.
