hiya. >How is Logghi Barogghi anyway? I have Evanescence, Gyral, Ellipsis, Zander, >Whine and Leave it out. Would I want to buy Logghi Barogghi? Is it >available on vinyl? you have all of those and not _logghi_? my friend... you're missing out. you could easily view mick's career trajectory from the side, and it would look sort of like a pyramid; starting at the bottom with _vae solis_, peaking just after (the also excellent) _gyral_ with _logghi barogghi_ and then plummeting back to earth with the flaccid, synthetic _zander_/_whine_/_leave it out_ stuff. here's a brief review of _logghi barogghi_ i wrote somewhere, sometime: scorn _logghi barogghi_ (earache) like being trapped inside of a bassbin in hell's own sound system; deep, dark, dank. rhythms are just this side of distortion, overdriven and extruded through endless delays. basslines forsake traditional 12-tone scales in favor of the richter. ambience that ranges from minimal flickers to the screech of metal against metal. vocals? not really - just samples of mick cursing in estonian or something, timestretched to hell and back. this is an amazing album, truly in it's own realm with other scorn albums not even comparing to the strange atmosphere here. 'black box ii' is THE soundtrack for riding the new york subways, lights out, at high speed. there's a less coherent review at www.homestead.com/spleens/ as well. >I didn't like the drum & bass sessions on Sub Rosa. who did? excepting a couple of quoit tracks (from _lounge_) and the _overloadladyremixes_, i think mick would be wise to avoid drum and bass entirely. for anyone who likes scorn, incidentally, there's a new duo called ocosi who do something you might enjoy. their first album is out soon on negative air research, and it consists of strange, smothering waves of dirty low-frequency ambient over beats constructed from chopped samples of mick harris himself. nice stuff. their web address is http://www.freeyellow.com/members5/zeroid/index.html.
