(idm) Cylob at Schizm on Saturday

Rumours of a large Rephlexian presence were not empirically confirmed.

The usual good DJs beforehand, a bit more acidic this time. Cylob came
on very late, though - about 1am. Lovely to hear June 9th played out
again.

He began with Are We Not Men..., which I really like. Then a quirky,
jaunty stop-start number. A comparison with Aphex was made by a
co-attendee. Then the synthesised-speech rapping one - Rewind (?), which
is hilariously good, with a super catchy chorus. There was another one
later, more electro-y, which I didn't like quite as much as Mr. Datathief
did, for instance. The set was completed by an old Kinesthesia tune and
that track from last year which consists in large part of a resonator
drum line.

Oh - nearly forgot. "Is anybody feeling sexy tonight?" - no, not Barry
White, but Chris Jeffs, introducing the first example of Booty Cylob,
synthesised tones claiming to be "cooler and harder than any normal guy",
"you'll be coming back for more" etc. You can gauge the theme of the
piece by the stomping intro of "sex sex sex sex" in time with the kick
drum.

Another quality star turn at Schizm and thankfully no sound problems this
time.

The same co-attendee mentioned earlier remarked upon the grotesque display
of trainspotting as Cylob started - grotesque stroke hilarious.
