The operative word here is "cliche".  99.99% of guitar
players seem to have difficulty using one any other
way.

These days, no - it all sounds so derivative and recycled.
Someone gave my wife a Stereolab album, and it's just too
retro for me.  I always feel like I'm watching some late
60's trifle of a movie when I hear it.

I'm sure there's someone out there doing something fairly
original, but I really don't have the time to track it
down.

I occasionally listen to Fripp - he's WAY out there doing
his own thing.
