J. Stroke - Slo-Fi Hi-Jinx (Clock Wise)
        credited to J. Ivcevich, 1996.

The first release on the Clock Wise record label,
based in Atlanta, comes on nice, heavy vinyl. Again, the
label's head/owner/whatever, Carter Tracy, is on IDM, so
I hope he'll speak up and let everyone know how to get
the goods, if there are still some left.

The a-side on this 12" starts with Saharan Drifter,
a very dynamic, hip-hop styled track. The needle drops on
some high-pitched tones, and the track proceeds on with an
electro beat. An organ comes in, along with a nice 2-bar
synth loop. A sax sample comes along, and brings a sampling
of the lounge music of Miami: 2050. This track justs builds
and builds, all in the context of an electro beat. This is one
for the armchair breakers out there. Incredible, layered
music. Note: This is not electro, but, rather, uses it as a
layer in the mix.
The second track, Squalor Hollow, comes in with a
heavy beat. Did someone tell him you don't have to hit the
snare that hard? A bell, maybe from a church, comes into
the picture. Is that a xylophone? Some dubby bass comes in
and the track goes on. Again, this would fit well with the
Jeswa EP on Schematic. .
The flip starts with Afganistomp (nice name :), a stroll
through middle-eastern drumming, a muted, jazzy bass, and
an overall Arabic feel. I'm not too familiar with the
instruments over there, so suffice it to say, whatever he
is using *works*, and makes a very hypnotic blend of middle
eastern and American modern music.
        Brass Fracture:
A gunshot beat strikes out then echoes off..
A horn peeks its head out. "Oh my god! Get help."
The beat starts to form. The bass walks on by to see
what happened. A hovering alien comes down to see
as well. The heavy, yet precise, steps of a police
officer are heard. Bells come in to clean up the
scene, the alien resumes its hovering, and the track
ends. A nice track.
