Nightmares On Wax : Carboot Soul / Warp 1999 >From those wonderful guys who gave us the perennial smokers' delight Smokers' Delight, comes Carboot Soul which has been 4 years in the making. So I immediately buy it on sight, rush home and eagerly pop it on: first track beautiful: warm and bubbly and familiar and comforting. Alas. This is the best track on the album. From there it's a steady descent into pleasant enough but unchallenging Saturday afternoon Jazz territory, fem vox and all; and if the word "noodle" were not currently blacklisted, that would readily spring to mind here. Track 7, Argha Noah, is the only other highlight, imo. I was surprised to be so disappointed by this release. Will it grow? What are other opinions? I * ~ you can also mail me at <xxxxxxx@xxxxxxx.xxx>
