(idm) Flutes (even more recommendations)

these are some non-IDM suggestions that people on this list might want to
check out as a good source for sampling, or even just to listen to...(i'm
taking the liberty to post this for a lurker):

Paul Horn - "Inside" (off of Rykodisc) 1967
1967 is a pivotal year for this guy. after doing some time as an altoist
and flutist (see Cal Tjdaer, associations with Lalo Schifrin), his more
recent stuff has been new age flute "mood music" type stuff. "Inside"
ain't that great of an album imho, and if you want something to actually
listen to and add to your record collection, i'd recommend starting with
"Nomad" (off of Kuckuck). then pick up "The Peace Album" (same) or
"Africa" (Gema) which is basically Horn's interpretations of compositions
by Sekou Camara Cobra - this is a little more jazzy.

Blues Project's - "Flute Thing"
their bassist, Andy Kulberg plays flute, along with some sweet jazz
instrumentals by Al Kooper and a rather psych-y sounding Danny Kalb. on
"Projections" (Verve). i still gotta pick up "Best of..." one of these days.

Eric Dolphy solo flute pieces - ?
didn't mention anything specific, so i'll jump in here, though, i'm no
Dolphy expert. on "Other Aspects" (Blue Note), there's a cool piece
entitled "Improvisations and Tukras" which has Dolphy on flute backed by
some Indian percussion - not your typical Dolphy from my encounters. most
of his records that i know of have him playing the flute, and i'm way too
busy right now to go through them all to find "solo flute pieces". just
wanted to mention in passing that the post-humous "Vintage Dolphy" (w/ Don
Ellis, Jimmy Knepper, Benny Golson, Jim Hall) has him doing some "out
there" avant-classical shit from Gunther Schuller, like "Densities".

-peace out-
Dunc.

np: Gangstarr - "Moment of Truth"
