(idm) My Evening with Plaid and Orbital

Hardly any mention of Plaid in the publicity...

They were on at 8pm and played for about 40 minutes, mostly new stuff
including two from the Peel session (one being the new Scoobs version).
A few departures from the usual Plaidness, including a strange almost
Country rhythm. Interesting stuff.

Orbital's performance was more interesting as a personal/social emblem
than a musical event. As the posh papers say, they "put on a show"
instead of presenting only the spectacle of some "nerds with keyboards".
The punters were loving it, mate. But it was a two-hour set and I must
confess to ennui after the first hour and I wasn't alone in this.

Back in 1993/4 I would have loved it as much as most people there did,
and I envy their enthusiasm in some ways, but the music just didn't move
me.

It did cause me to remember the days when I perambulated the circuses in
Edinburgh, re-listening to my favourite bits of the brown album on my
walkman.

So, in essence, I realised I was old. But that's okay.

There was a nice moment when they played a rendition of the Dr. Who
theme, but Dub Syndicate's version was better.
