As bad as this sounds, I have used car wax with a %50 success rate.

If you get that green bottle 'Turtle Wax' instant stuff that you rub on 
(thinly), let dry, and rub off with a CD-cloth.. If the scratches are 
bad, Ive even heard of folx using ultra-fine grit sandpaper before the 
car-wax treatment but I have not been quite that brave.
