Well, I pat myself on the back when I speak of my little bro. He's 16 and is
already starting his own IDM project.

He was introduced to the genre through me, and I guess caught on much the same
way I did. We pooled our resources as far as a CD collection went, and then he
complained that he was going to have to replace a ton of stuff when I left for
college (I had dibs on the Autechre collection).

He bought a 303 this summer and got a JV-1080 synth module for xmas. So far, he
complains that the foges don't 'ground' him any more, but take his module away.
They always find a way to piss us off. He's pioneering a virtually unheard-of
type of music in a fairly inhospitable environment, Tulsa, Oklahoma. This stuff
is not Punk Rawk, but he's managed to work his way up from playing "video game
music" at parties, to making some connections, to possibly have booked a small
show last I heard. He brought me a demo tape when he visited a few weeks ago,
and I'm impressed as to how his music 'matures' each month. More on this
subject as it develops.

Anyway, {sniff}, any chance I can get to laud my little bro is a chance I'll
take ;)

Yes, it is affirmative. IDM is underground, and the only time we're going to
hear it is as background filler for DJ's/MtV. Matt and I both try to 'convert'
people to good music through our spheres of influence, but it's a tough job.
(these 'phishingrooven' people are TOUGH man!).

As for "The Matrix", my views were pretty much the same. Killer movie, ass9
soundtrack. I first saw it with a carload of dorm-mates and I had my playlist
for the ride home plotted out before I was out of the theater. I had
Datathief's: Night Raid in before we left the parking lot and, as somebody
piped up from the back seat, I quote: "Yo, man! This seems like music for that
movie!"
No kidding.

out-out,
