> I have a boutique stompbox Dimension-C clone and it's very clip happy... The problem with the Dim-C is that it uses high frequency pre-emphasis and de-emphasis on the input signal to reduce overall noise. This boosts the treble on the way into the BBD and cuts the treble on the way out. This sounds a great way to reduce hiss that is generated by the BBD. And it is - so long as your input signal doesn't contain a lot of high frequencies which are also going to get boosted on the way in and increase the risk of exceeding the limit of the BBD. Guitars do not normally contain anywhere near the amount of high frequency information as a synth can produce so the pedal works well with guitars (and vocals). But when we shove that bright top octave string pad into a Dim-C it'll clip like anything unless we keep it real quiet. So couple this with the fact that the BBD is being run from just 6.6V we have less headroom for our signal to move upwards. Get rid of the pre-emphasis and de-emphasis parts of the circuit and the DC-2 will be more keyboard friendly - albeit a little more hissy. Tony
