I like the idea but I'll have to to some research for how many modules and for which functions this makes sense. Another idea would be a voltage controlled version with electronic switches. This would increase the price not very much (the expensive parts are the front panel, the switches and the pcb) but add the possibility to control the functions also via voltages (if it makes sense).
