Sluts'n'strings & 909: Carrera
Cheap Records: CD Cheap Three
1997

All tracks written and produced by p. pulsinger and e. tenakean.

This is a great and possibly overlooked CD, judging by the date of '97.
Electro, techno, and trip hop are in full effect and all mixed up. Not retro
electro so much as electro updated. Each song has a quirky almost-MoM
feel, but there's also this nagging beat and melody. Extremely conducive to
toe-tapping...to put it mildly. Lot's of beeps, bleeps and gurgling. A spoken
male vocal, a robotesque chorus here and there, some jazzy bits and a nice
use of samples really keep it interesting.

I'm trying to come up with a comparison, but that is very difficult. Part
Coldcut, part DMX Crew, part Richard Kirk. How's that! This CD is unique.
I have some of Pulsinger's other work which is decidedly more experimental
and hard; this I like better.

... and I give this one 95/100.

Have a great weekend!

Jim
