Also, didn't SubPop or some other grunge label used to have the "singles of the month" club or something, where they sent out monthly club-only 7 inches, etc. Or maybe it was kill Rock stars. A subscription service would be a good way of dealing with the whole limited edition hubbub--they could press only what they know their true fans will want. Of course, there are still issues there if you join a little too late, etc. But if run well, it could help the label, by guaranteeing sales, and the fans, by guaranteeing they get special items delivered to their door.
