Hmm, some sort of analogue (or digital simulating analogue) synthesis device is what you really want. But if you've just got a MIDI-compatible sound card and what to try messing around with generative music packages, then check out Koan. You create seed phrases and then manipulate stack loads of variables to create unique phrases, elements of which can interact with one another or your input. I've been experimenting by sticking some heavily distorted percussion and clicky sounds (courtesy of a Korg Prophecy) through Koan, to create Autechre-style drum patterns that start off nicely structured but generally disintegrate into chaos over a five-minute span. Sample that back into Cubase VST and add loads of intertwining melodies. Simple! But like I said, all you need to muck around with Koan is a MIDI-compatible sound card. -- /\/)ark headspin - http://www.sonance.demon.co.uk/
