well, music can be defined as organized sound, which of course autechre are doing. since they
can't really put out an album without putting some sounds together, they will always be making
music by default. with their last couplefew releases though, i've noticed them concentrating more
on developing a way of creating sounds as well as a structural process involving time manipulation
and the creative use of clicks. however, i hear the end result and i think to myself that they're
so engrossed in the details of what they're doing that they aren't concerned with the big picture.
the end result just winds up being evidence of the process, rather than a composed statement.
their stuff sounds aimless and disconnected, a hallmark of experimentalism, but i don't really find
alot of superexperimental music that sounds good. maybe their next album should be a book.
