1.) Roland SH-101 - this is all the essentials of synth music; only samplers would be different. The 101 is perfect (the SH-01a even would be better if it was physically as large as the SH-101). The Pro One is on position 1b, but sorry, the 101 was first one and is the best in reduction to the core of "synth". 2.) my TR-808 - hold it! Didn't they say "synths"? Yes they did, but synths make only the guys listen, while the 808 will make the girls dance. And why "my" 808? Because mine has built in shuffle (Marvin: chew your fingernails now!). now it becomes difficult... 3.) Roland Jupiter-4, can't tell you why, but it is the one that I will recognize always. 4.) Minimoog. Yes finally it has to be here, because it sounds incredible. If it had a builtin SH-101 sequencer, or if its VCOs would be playable "paraphonical", it would toss the 101 from the throne. But it hasn't and the VCOs aren't, so ... 5.) Rhodes Chroma Polaris. I pondered a lot about whether to place here the Prophet 5, the JP6, the OB-X/Xa/8 or similar. But the Polaris is the one, that surprised me the most even after 35 years of playing polyphonic synths. ok, now the second chance: Pro One (Killersound) System 100 (Killersounds Daddy) Minibrute 2 (Sytem100's grandchild) Prophet 5 (sometimes five times Killersound is too much; that can be the Problem of the Prophet 5) DX7 - its unique and still can be impressive and mighty, though its sounds may sound sucked dry after having heard them a zillion times. But that is not the DX7's fault.
