Nah, that was the guy who played before scanner, Paul Needham. He played 4 to the floor trance (and house) for 2 hours...We were board stiff, as was everyone else in the place, but we didn't leave. When dj spooky went on, we fucking ran for the door. > ...at least there's someone who's not afraid to take > chances and expand on the genre of "dance music". Don't give me shit about being 'afraid to take chances and expand on the genre of 'dance music''. I'm one of the few people in LA with the nuts (and the freedom) to do that. I have a fine appreciation of most all forms of electronic music (except diva house). My sets cross as many or more styles then that sublime shit ball spooky, including jazz (surprise, surprise). Plus I know how to scratch (and I'm not talking about jiggling the record out of time with the cross fader in the middle). > What you have to understand is that he comes from the dub-school, > where atmosphere and dynamics is more important than anal-boy > technique worship. Bullshit. Dub has a certain flow to it. Paul has no fucking idea about flow. He's spastic. How can you call cross cutting jungle with jazz, off beat and not beatmatch, anything but lame. The rats that live in my wall could do that. A fucking deaf person could do that. Scratching Public Enemy out of time with the Alfred Hitchcock theme song spinning backwards isn't a real hard one either. I could have done the same things that he did, with my hands tied behind my back, blindfolded and a motorcycle helmet on my head. But I wouldn't, because I have respect for the people who are listening to the music. He had none. He was just having a wank in public and calling it 'art'. I'm not a big 'anal-boy technique worship' kind of guy...If the music is good, I'm not going to bitch about the skills. But you can't even hear the music, because this guy is acting like such a fucking maestro on the decks. He never had two records in time for more then 2 beats. Another dj came up to me in the first 5 minutes of his set and asked why we wasted our time learning how to mix two records. He said it obviously didn't matter. He was joking of course... > Last but not least, if he's so wack, why is he on tour with Scanner, and > you're not? Because he's a bullshit artist. Just the same as any art school kid who craps on a canvas and convinces all his friends it's 'art'. Think about that one... brock. ps. I guess you didn't read my IDM review of alec empire djing a while back.
