(idm) Ninjas in NYC

Just wanted to say that the NinjaTune show in NYC last night was about on
par with the previous posts about the tour.

I dug Riz's set, but I gotta be honest, it was armchair stoner music, I
would have more preferred to have been sitting down and not sober, and not
in a smoky, crowded atmoshpere to hear her set. If you want to talk about
a set that moved both my mind *and* body...

4 Hero. Total masters of breakbeat. Period. Ultra tight sound, perfectly
collaged together (I say collage as opposed to mixed because I do not want
to imply a strictly DJ/vinyl set, because it was not). They set it off
with this hard funky abstract hip hop break, over which I believe Mark Mac
rapped, while Dego manned the gear. They managed to take the place through
a tour of hip hop, then chilled smooth house, then some *slammin'* hard
step, then back to hip hip and abstract. In particular I remember them
using a lot of 909 to accent their breaks, which I thought was cool,
because no one does that. I think at some point someone else took over the
rap, but I don't know who. I couldn't get over how fresh it sounded; in no
way was it standard dnb. If their set is any indication of what their new
album is going to sound like, it's going to smoke.

That alone was worth the $15,
