Risking going over the obvious:
When you *do* move your player, carry it with you at all times. That is
dont put it in with the boxes that you toss in the back of the U-HAUL.
Id put it in the passenger seat or somewhere you can keep an eye or hand
on it when things get bumpy in your moving. Also when people buy certain
cd players (like multi disc platters) theres a white locking key that
keeps the player safe during shipment. Many times an eager purchaser
throws this key away along with the styrofoam, instructions, and box thus
subjecting the deck to excessive jarring the next time they move.

Also, most of the CD players Ive "fixed" for friends simply have a VERY
dirty lens. If there is a lot of cigarette smoke from parties and they
dont have a good lens cleaner its only a short matter of time before it
stops working. In college Id scour pawn shops for busted CD players ($5
managers As-Is specials) and one lens-cleaning later I have a $5 cd
player that works fine. You probably covered this base but if you leave
it to an electronics repair house to determine what is wrong, your
putting faith in their hands as to whether they need to bill you for a
$20 cleaning, or an $80 'alignment'.

my $.02
