About a week ago I picked up david kristian - national kid/oyster point 12
inch on discreet. Gave it a few lessons. Being no speed suggestion on
the record I played it at 45 rpm. The result was wacked out drum and bass
with experimental noodelings. It had all the traditional elements of the
genre but it also had something special about it. Perhaps it was the odd
beat patterns or how the other sounds <synths, bass etc..> interacted with
the beats. So this week I see it on modern music's new release list
described as <paraphrasing> experimental electronica in an idm vein. That
made me curious, because obviously it was jungle. So I dropped it on the
turntable and played it at 33 rpm instead. Turns out, that it is great at
this speed. It features nice quirky beats and a great use of sounds.
Best way to describe it is as the artifical intelligence sound updated for
1998. Killer stuff. So if you see it buy it <domestic if your in the
U.S.>. Only 2 songs but since you can play it at 33 or 45 it is like 4
songs....
