Morris was on when we got there at 10:30. He was playing a Boards of Canada track when we arrived, which made me very happy. I noticed stuff by Wagon Christ, Thievery Corporation, Push button Objects, Fila Brazillia, and loads of other great stuff. As far as I could tell, MMM was building his set on the fly--testing a cue track in the headphones for a second, deciding it wouldn't work, returning to his crate, etc. many times. His mixing was a bit rocky, but he kept the flow going. The horrible acoustics at the Justic League probably didn't help him at all. :P Jonah Sharpe's set was mostly breakbeat, and I wasn't too impressed. However, I spent most of his set waiting for Amon Tobin to come on, and resting my sore back, so my attention wasn't really focused on his music. Amon Tobin played alot of his own stuff, and I heard a fair amount of Funki Porcini in there as well. The complexity of his music and his loose mixing depleted alot of energy at the club, however. I half expected this to happen, and when it did, I found a place to sit, and just listened for a while. After about 45 minutes of his set, I headed home (which wasn't difficult to do, seeing as I live around the corner from the Justice League :) Overall, it was a good show. Not as good as the Coldcut/DJ Food/Funki Porcini 'Unexploded Bomb' show from two years ago, but a really fun night. I recommend catching the tour if you can. Incidentally, MMM played a track that sounded like it must have been by Boards of Canada, but not anything I have heard by them. It was uncharacteristically beat heavy, but had those famously loose, spooky melodies sliding around on top. Can anyone trainspot this for me? Sorry I can't be more descriptive. :| At 9:12 AM -0700 9/22/98, jimg/skoop wrote: >Went to the Amon Tobin/Spacetime/MMMoris show in San Fran last night @ the >Justice League...anybody else?
