[AH] Wiring standard for synth expression pedals?

Hello all,

I just ran into a situation where my Ensoniq Expression Pedal is not =
compatible with a new USB-MIDI controller. Is there one standard for =
wiring a passive expression pedal, or is there more than one?

The Ensoniq pedal is wired with Ground on the Sleeve, Power on the Ring, =
and the wiper signal on the Tip.

The USB-MIDI controller is putting out Power on the Tip, and expecting =
the signal on the Ring, but if I push the pedal to minimum then it =
shorts out the power! Clearly, the two products are not compatible.

I=E2=80=99m wondering whether this is common. I really only have one =
pedal, so I=E2=80=99m not familiar with whether everything is compatible =
or not.

Taking a quick look at the Oberheim Xpander Service Manual, it seems =
that their Pedal inputs are not wired to provide power. They=E2=80=99re =
evidently designed to expect the pedal to have its own source of power =
for CV. It seems to be a TS jack, but at least the signal is still on =
the Tip.
