So, after our two hour drive from Tijuana to LA and some stops along the =
way, we managed to get to the palladium at a good hour. A couple of =
security/ticket checks and we were inside the building.=20
As we waited, two DJ's opened the show with a hip hop set. But sadly and =
truthfully, I must say that they weren't very good. The tracks they were =
playing were ok, but the sound was bad, like they cut all the high's and =
accentuated the middle, not nice. And not just that, but they weren't =
mixing at all, not even trying. One of them, was actually doing some =
decent scratches, but was about it.=20
So they're we are just standing and thinking that we just wasted five =
bucks and some neurons on some decent acid.=20
After some serious booing from the crowd they stop, only to continue for =
a couple of more tracks.=20
A few minutes of silence and the musicians come on stage, and that 808 =
kick from heaven.
"you are my angel"
Beautiful track on the voice of horace andy.
The show, to my surprise, was very acoustic. Not a lot of secuences, but =
very live playing. The bassist was all over the place, the guitarist =
made some wonderfull sounds, keyboards and drums were fine also. If any =
Analogue Heaven'ers are reading, the keyboardist had a kurzweil PC 80, =
some small samplers and the dreaded JP-8000 (although it was covered =
with black sheething of sorts)
some more tracks from the album, blue lines and protection ( and no =
protection was not played). teardrop on the voice of alpha was not as =
sweet as liz's but nice, nonetheless.
Two encore's and the song I was waiting for, inertia creeps. the muslim =
rythims were not as accented as on the record, a low for me. But Daddy G =
and 3D made it come alive. Mushroom looked alittle silly trying to play =
the tambourine, stick to the turntables man.
At that moment I thought Tricky's show had been much more powerfull, but =
then all of the members went on stage, and this huge sound started =
revolving round the theater, with an amazing bass that shook our =
clothes.
fucking great show.
Although thru out the event you could feel the tension between the =
members, it was a fucking great show.

-So then photek?
-photek it is!

After some microscopic puffs of canabbis we headed for science, only to =
get lost in lil' ol' LA!. Arriving way to late to hear any of the other =
DJ's. The club was pitch dark, hot and very crowded. You could barely =
dance. But Rupert Parks was spining some heavy stuff, ocasionaly =
dropping tracks from the new album. Hard beats, dark bass lines. =
(somebody said they were getting tired of dnb, open your eyes boys and =
girls) Ram, Decoder. Calyx, excelent tracks and stunning dissolves.
The MC was fabulous (Bryan Gee?) I had seen him before with the opening =
acts at the Roni Size show.=20
The patrons of the place were very nice, despite an initial bad feeling, =
the atmosphere was good. I'd come back to the place.
2:00am and the show was over.
not a bad sunday night ey?
must head back for Tijuana.
