Marky van der Vord's DNB mixtape

This is the second mix I have had off Marky and it matches the
previous in being excellent atmospheric drum and bass. While many,
including myself, thought this style of jungle "light" disappeared
with LTJ Bukem a couple of years, this mix proves it hasn't, indeed
the music has progressed somewhat, with a deeper richer sound. The
tape is subtitled Music for Slumbering Robots, and it is
understandable why; light drum patterns, not too many rough basslines
and a slowish tempo characterise the majority of the tracks here. One
criticism that could be levelled is that it is a little too clean and
safe, however I sort of like the way it sticks with this one genre of
breakbeats. While recognising absolutely none of the tracks,
highlights include Blu Mar Ten's sublime Lunar and the wonderful
introduction to side Hal from Blame entitled Altered Course. The
mixing itself is sweet and very good, although I doubt many jungalists
would be mad for this mix due to the style. However for lazy androids
like myself it does exactly what says on the tin and is recommended.
8/10
